Alex Jack and Gale Jack, M.Ed. have practiced macrobiotics for more than 25 years and as certified macrobiotic teachers and counselors have guided many individuals and families to greater health and happiness.
Alex was born in Chicago and grew up in the Midwest and East Coast. He received a degree in philosophy from Oberlin College and did graduate work in Boston where he served as a student chaplain at Mass General Hospital. Over the years, he has served as the editor-in-chief of the East West Journal; author or co-author of more than 25 books, including The Cancer-Prevention Diet and Diet for a Strong Heart with Michio Kushi and The Complete Guide to Macrobiotic Cooking with Aveline Kushi; and director and faculty member of the Kushi Institute. He has lectured around the world, including the Cardiology Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia; the Zen Temple in Beijing, China; Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh; the New England Acupuncture Center in Boston; and many other educational and healing centers. Alex specializes in helping to prevent and relieve cancer, heart disease, and other chronic disorders. As the co-author of The Mozart Effect with Don Campbell and several novels and plays, he also offers guidance in the healing powers of music, literature, and art. He is currently a visiting faculty member of the Kushi Institute in Europe and the Noah Center for the healing arts.
Gale received her bachelor’s in education at Texas Tech University and master’s degree at the University of Houston. She has served as a teacher and psychological counselor in the Houston and Dallas school systems, associate director and cooking instructor at the Kushi Institute, and co-author of Promenade Home: Macrobiotics and Women’s Health, Women’s Health Guide, and Raising Healthy Pets. She guides others in all aspects of macrobiotic practice, including kitchen set-up, menu planning, and home remedies and serves as a sounding board for questions and applications of yin/yang philosophy.
Alex and Gale live in the beautiful Berkshire mountains of western Massachusetts near their daughter, Mariya, and three-year-old grandson, Hanz. Their son, Jon, lives in Dallas. In addition to teaching, counseling, and writing, Alex and Gale and their associates are founders of Planetary Health, Inc., a nonprofit educational organization that sponsors Amberwaves, a network devoted to preserving the environment and keeping America and the planet beautiful. At the present time, articles and information on macrobiotics are included in the Amberwaves Journal. A yearly subscription is $25 for individuals and families, $15 for students and the elderly, $35 for people living overseas, and $100 for a supporting membership. A complimentary book on some aspect of macrobiotic health is included with membership.
